The Marciantes
Marciante and Company was born from a desire to create luxury quality leather footwear and make it available at a fraction of the inflated cost of the historic fashion houses. Old school quality, and new school way of business - we want to turn the industry upside down and provide your new favorite pair of shoes again and again.
When we first had the idea to start a shoe company in 2016, it was out of 2 passions colliding. A passion for quality footwear and leather goods, and a passion for finding creative ways to contribute to the society around us. We always want to leave things better than we found them, so we began looking for ways those two worlds could come together in a creative outlet. Matt had a passion (ok...obsession) with shoes and had over 50 pairs when he and Jacqueline started dating. Jacqueline always had a creative eye and passion for fashion, footwear, and design - so they saw an easy opportunity to collaborate on a passion project and build something special.
Matt's dad has worked in the leather footwear industry for over 20 years and has a lot of knowledge, experience, and connections to high quality manufacturers and leather vendors worldwide. He was a wealth of resource in terms of getting started on the right foot! We very quickly were able to find ways to bring our creative ideas and designs to life in samples and prototypes using some of the best materials we could find.
In comes the pricing question...
We had to find a way to be different. And GOOD different, not weird different. So we took a good long look at this industry and realized that the leather footwear space has not changed a whole lot in the last hundred years or so...there are some advancements in technology and cheaper/faster ways to do things, but in the high end space it's mostly the same materials and methods that have been used by cobblers for decades. So WHY is there such a huge gap in pricing between luxury fashion houses ($1,300 suede Chelsea Boots) and the cheaper fast fashion stores ($150 suede Chelsea Boots) for a similar product but very different quality standards - and no options in between?
You're paying for the brand markup.
The answer is that these brands do it because they can. Yes, there is a pretty big difference between the cheaper boot and the expensive boot in terms of quality, fit, durability, materials, etc... but not a $1,200 difference. That's the inflated price tag of prestige and name, and clout, and FOMO. So that's where we took aim.
We knew we could make that same $1,300 Chelsea Boot (or maybe even better tbh...) and sell it at a fraction of the high end retail cost. Making something of a fantastic quality available to the masses instead of the 1% - sort of like Robin Hood stealing from the rich to give to the people.
And with that, "Leather for the people" was born.
Located in the heart of Dallas, Texas - we're a small team with big dreams, and we work hard to bring our customers an exciting variety of high quality leather footwear, leather bags, and apparel. Our aim is to bring the best experience to everyone shopping our products. Please reach out if you have any questions at all, we would love to help!
